Kenneth Smith, Spartanburg City Council member, Reverend of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, small business owner (Interlude—a coffee house at 99 S. Church Street), and busy community activist, has generously agreed to continue in the position of committee chairperson. His leadership since inception has been invaluable to SCS. Heather Barton, SCS parent, Spanish teacher, and Spartanburg community volunteer is now serving in the position of vice-chairperson. She has been an active member of the planning committee since its inception, providing significant support for, among other things, program development, community information meetings, editing, and marketing. Martha Petoskey McPherson, P&I Grant Program Director, is the primary author of the charter application and the grant that was awarded by the DOE in 2006 ($420,000). She is a certified and licensed psychologist at the doctoral level and currently is employed as a school psychologist in the Spartanburg area. Anna Gilmore, SCS parent and former consultant for SCS, has generously agreed to serve in a volunteer capacity as the committee’s secretary. She has been, and will continue to be, an integral part of all aspects of startup, from enrollment to employment.
