Welcome to SCS!

Regular meetings of the Board are held the fourth Monday of each month. Upcoming meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. on site at the school (385 S. Spring Street)

Persons wishing to speak to the Board must register by phone or in person on the day of the regular meeting. Registration is open all day by telephone at 621-3882 and on location at the school between 6:00 and 6:20 PM. The opportunity to address the Board at each regular Board Meeting is 30 minutes at the beginning of the meeting.

Each speaker has up to five minutes, subject to change due to number who wish to speak. Speakers may not ask questions of Board Members. Board Members may not engage speakers in discussion. Disruptive behavior is not permitted. Personal attacks aimed at students or staff are not permitted. Scurrilous, obscene, or recklessly defamatory language aimed at anyone is not permitted.

The Spartanburg Charter School Board will follow up on all matters that speakers present.

Overview

SCS will serve students in Kindergarten through 5th grade in Year 1 (2009-2010) and will add one grade level each year up to 9th grade in 2013-2014. We intend to bring together children with diverse learning styles and families from diverse demographic backgrounds.

The Spartanburg Charter School will not limit, deny admission, or show preference to any individual or group of individuals. The charter school will recruit, register, and admit students without regard to race, creed, color, gender, national origin, religion, ancestry, disability or need for special education services.

The law does provide that priority status may be given to a sibling or siblings of a student already enrolled in the school, to children of charter school employees, and to children of charter planning committee members provided their enrollment does not constitute more than 20 percent of the total charter enrollment.
