Welcome to SCS!

Regular meetings of the Board are held the fourth Monday of each month. Upcoming meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. on site at the school (385 S. Spring Street)

Persons wishing to speak to the Board must register by phone or in person on the day of the regular meeting. Registration is open all day by telephone at 621-3882 and on location at the school between 6:00 and 6:20 PM. The opportunity to address the Board at each regular Board Meeting is 30 minutes at the beginning of the meeting.

Each speaker has up to five minutes, subject to change due to number who wish to speak. Speakers may not ask questions of Board Members. Board Members may not engage speakers in discussion. Disruptive behavior is not permitted. Personal attacks aimed at students or staff are not permitted. Scurrilous, obscene, or recklessly defamatory language aimed at anyone is not permitted.

The Spartanburg Charter School Board will follow up on all matters that speakers present.

Fine Arts

SCS believes that learning about the arts and other cultures is essential to every child’s education. Data support that in addition to studying the arts for their own sake, experiencing and making works of art benefits students in their intellectual, personal, and social development, and can be particularly beneficial for students from economically disadvantaged circumstances and those who are at risk of not succeeding in school. Furthermore, integrating the arts into the core curriculum is associated with:

• Improved reading, verbal, and mathematics skills
• Higher levels of creative thinking
• Higher achievement motivation
• More cognitive engagement
• Improved instructional practices in schools
• Enhanced professional culture of schools
• Positive school climate
• Higher levels of community engagement and identity
